Several pieces of the same size are cut from one piece of stock where they fit, allowing 4mm for the saw blade between pieces; the first piece is cut free and each additional piece is £1.60. Description
Black HDPE rod (high-density polyethylene, PE300) is one of the most versatile engineering plastics you can buy: tough, light, low-friction and quick to machine. We stock it as solid black round bar in 29 diameters from 10mm to 300mm and lengths from 100mm to 2000mm, so you can buy close to the size you need and waste less material.

How to choose your size
- Diameter: pick a diameter at least 2 to 3mm larger than your finished part so you can turn it to size cleanly.
- Length: add up the length of all your parts, then allow about 5mm per saw cut plus enough to hold in the chuck.
- Need a size that isn't listed? Ask for a quote and we'll reply the same working day.
Machining tips
- Use sharp tools with plenty of clearance and moderate feeds to avoid heat build-up.
- Support long, thin bar when turning to stop it flexing.
- HDPE expands more with heat than metal, so measure finished parts at room temperature.
Frequently asked questions
Is black HDPE rod food safe?
For food-contact parts, choose our natural (white) HDPE rod. Contact us if you need certification for your application.
Can it be used outdoors?
HDPE is not affected by water and resists many chemicals. Ask us before using it in long-term direct sunlight.
Can I order a custom length or a bulk quantity?
Yes. Request a quote with the diameter, length and quantity and we'll reply the same working day.
How is it delivered?
Standard UK delivery takes 1 to 3 working days, and the cost is shown at checkout. See our delivery policy and returns policy. Cut-to-size items can't be returned.
