Description
Description
This Premium High-Performance PMI (polymethacrylimide) foam features a fine closed-cell structure that minimizes resin consumption. The foam only absorbs resin in the exposed cut cells at the surface, resulting in a very low surface resin consumption. Compared to closed-cell PVC foam, this PMI foam offers better mechanical properties, with approximately 15% higher compressive strength and higher processing temperatures.
The PMI foam is compatible with all common resin systems, including epoxy, vinyl ester, and polyester. It can be easily machined, milled, and cut using conventional tools designed for wood or plastic. Thinner sheets can even be cut by hand. Radii down to twice the sheet thickness can be formed using thermoforming at around 180°C, where the foam becomes thermoplastic.
This foam is available in two densities: 31 IG-F at 32kg/m³ and 71 IG-F at 75kg/m³. The 31 density is typically used with skins under 0.5mm in lightweight applications, while the 71 density offers almost three times the mechanical strength and stiffness of the 31 density, making it ideal for heavier loaded panels with thicker skins, such as floors, decks, and chassis elements. Typical applications for this foam include aerospace, automotive, medical, marine, wind power technologies, as well as recreation and sporting goods.
