Description
Description
This high-performance, unexpanded, perforated aluminium honeycomb core material is made from 3003 grade alloy. With a cell size of 19.1mm and a low density of 0.0288g/cm³, this honeycomb is suitable for less demanding applications, particularly large architectural panels, doors, cladding, and some flooring applications. It is also extensively used as the sacrificial bed for laser cutting.
The 19.1mm cell size is the largest and most cost-effective aluminium honeycomb available. Alternative sizes, including 6.4mm and 3.2mm cell sizes, are also offered.
Please note:
- The honeycomb cells are nominally standard hexagons. The cell size shown is the measurement between any two opposite sides when expanded.
- The aluminium honeycomb is shipped in unexpanded (block) form, making it more cost-effective to ship while ensuring it is delivered undamaged. Specialist equipment is needed to expand the sheet.

Expanding the Block
Expanding the Aluminium Honeycomb
Important: Wear gloves when handling the block. Typically, aluminium honeycomb is supplied unexpanded as the expanded block is susceptible to damage during transport. Large-scale manufacturing uses specialized machines to expand it; however, for smaller applications, an alternative manual method is available.
Equipment Needed
You will need two wooden battens, each as wide as the honeycomb sheet and sturdy enough to prevent excessive flexing (2" by 4" wooden battens are ideal). Additionally, you will require a bag of long wood nails, which should be long enough to penetrate both the wooden batten and the honeycomb. For cutting the honeycomb, a steel ruler and a sharp, long-blade Stanley type knife are necessary.
